A ceramic coating is a semi-permanent layer bonded to your clear coat. It makes the paint hydrophobic, easier to wash, more resistant to UV and chemical etching, and noticeably deeper in gloss. What it does not do is stop a rock chip — that is what PPF is for.
We are an XPEL installer. We fit XPEL film on the front ends we protect and we coat with the XPEL system, so the film and the coating are designed to work together rather than being two products that happen to be on the same car.
We are on Lost Creek Gap in Boerne, five minutes north of The Rim off I-10 and Ralph Fair Road. Most of our coating work comes from Fair Oaks Ranch, The Dominion, Leon Springs and North San Antonio.
Every coating we install starts with paint correction. Sealing swirls and defects under a multi-year coating locks them in. We will not do it.

Pricing depends on vehicle size and paint condition. A neglected black single-stage finish takes far longer to correct than a two-year-old garage-kept car. We quote after we see it — no bait pricing.
Water sheets off instead of beading and sitting. Dirt has less to grip. Most customers find wash time drops by half and the car stays clean longer between washes.
Texas sun oxidises clear coat. Bird droppings, bug splatter and hard water etch it. A coating gives those a sacrificial layer to attack instead of your paint.
The visible improvement is mostly from the correction underneath. The coating locks that in and keeps it there rather than letting it dull over a season.
It will not stop rock chips, deep scratches or road debris. Any shop telling you a coating is scratch-proof is overselling. For impact protection you want paint protection film.
A ceramic coating is transparent. It does not hide anything — it magnifies whatever is underneath. Swirl marks, buffer trails, water spots and oxidation all get sealed in and made more visible, and they stay there for the life of the coating.
This is the single biggest difference between a good coating job and a cheap one, and it is where most of the labour hours go.
— Wash and decontamination. Chemical iron removal, tar removal, then clay to pull embedded contaminants out of the clear coat.
— Paint depth readings. We measure before we cut. Clear coat is finite and a previous owner or body shop may already have removed some.
— Test panel. We correct a section first to find the least aggressive combination that gets the result.
— Correction. One-step for light swirling, multi-stage for neglected or heavily marred paint.
— Panel wipe and inspection under multiple light sources. Defects hide under a single light. We check under several before anything gets coated.
Paint correction can be booked on its own, priced by vehicle size, paint hardness and how much marring there is. As part of a coating package it is included at the level listed above.
Correction alone, without a coating over it, will look excellent for a few months and then start collecting swirls again from washing. If you are paying for correction, coating it is usually the sensible call.
Honestly: it depends more on how you wash it than on which coating you buy.
Manufacturer durability claims assume correct maintenance. A coating washed with dish soap in direct sun through a Texas summer will not reach its rated life. The same coating hand-washed with a pH-neutral shampoo and a decontamination wash twice a year will often exceed it.
What shortens a coating:

Straight answer: it depends on how long you are keeping the car and how you wash it.
Worth it if you are keeping the vehicle more than two years, you park outside, you hand-wash or use a touchless wash, and the gloss and ease of cleaning matter to you. In San Antonio sun, the UV and etching resistance alone justifies it on a car you care about.
Probably not worth it if you are handing a lease back in twelve months, the car lives in a garage and barely gets driven, or you run it through a brush wash every week. A brush wash will mar a coated car the same as an uncoated one.
We would rather tell you that up front than take the money.

Vehicle size and current paint condition are the two things that move the number most — a neglected finish takes far more correction hours than a well-kept one. Yes, and we will not skip it. A coating is transparent and permanent for its lifespan — anything left in the paint gets sealed under it and magnified. Every one of our packages includes correction at some level.
They solve different problems. PPF is a physical film that absorbs rock chips and scratches. Ceramic is a chemical layer that adds gloss, UV resistance and makes washing far easier, but will not stop an impact. Many owners run both — film on the front end, coating over everything.
Yes, and we usually recommend it. Coating the film gives it the same hydrophobic and easy-clean properties as the rest of the paint, and keeps the finish consistent across the car.
It depends on the correction level. Essential is the quickest; Reserve on a car needing multi-stage correction takes considerably longer. Coatings also need controlled cure time indoors before the car goes back out, so we will confirm the schedule when we quote.
It is the ideal time, but new does not mean flawless. Transport, dealer prep and lot washing routinely leave marring in the paint before you collect it. We still inspect and correct as needed.
Graphene-infused coatings are a variation on ceramic chemistry rather than a different category. Real-world differences are modest. We are happy to talk through the options rather than sell you on a label.
